Mei Lin Hotel, China
Mei Lin Hotel was a retrofit project. Originally a factory workers’ dormitory that comprised of three building blocks, the client’s design brief was to create a hotel with a life-span of five years, after which it was to be demolished for a shopping complex redevelopment. Our designers were asked to keep the project costs to a minimum.
While keeping the elevations of the buildings unchanged, a new glass atrium was created to flood natural light into the coffee shop situated below. Also, a glass canopy at the entrance was added to provide point of entry and shade for the hotel guests and visitors. Additionally, an iconic glass roof was created to crown the South West corner of the building and to give the hotel an identity from a heavily travelled highway.
