How to Choose an Interior Design Firm in Hong Kong
作者:Glen Towner · 2026年9月28日 · 6 min read

Choosing an interior design firm in Hong Kong is different from choosing one almost anywhere else. The city's building stock is dense and highly regulated, its climate is hard on materials, and its floor plans demand genuine ingenuity. The right design partner understands all three.
Look for Local Project Experience
A portfolio of work completed in Hong Kong tells you a firm understands the practical realities: building management office approvals, deed of mutual covenant restrictions, narrow site access, and the logistics of renovating in an occupied tower. Ask to see completed projects in buildings similar to yours — a designer who has delivered work in Ma On Shan, Tsim Sha Tsui, or Mid-Levels will know the quirks of those building types.
Ask About Materials and Climate
Hong Kong's humidity destroys poorly specified materials. Veneers delaminate, mild steel corrodes, and cheap laminates swell within a few summers. A good Hong Kong architecture firm will specify for the climate as a matter of course: marine-grade hardware, properly sealed timber, moisture-resistant substrates in kitchens and bathrooms.
Understand the Scope of Services
Firms in the city range from decoration-only studios to full architecture practices that handle planning, building submission, and site supervision. Be clear about what your project needs. A whole-flat renovation with structural changes requires a firm that can coordinate engineers, contractors, and building management — not just produce beautiful drawings.
Chemistry Matters
You will work with your designer for months, often through stressful decisions. Meet the people who will actually run your project, not just the principal. Ask how they communicate, how they handle budget changes, and how they resolve problems on site.
Our Approach
At Towner + Partners Studio, we work across hospitality, workplace, retail, and residential projects in Hong Kong and the region. Every project begins with a feasibility conversation — we review your floor plans, your brief, and your budget, and give you an honest assessment before any commitment is made. If you are considering a project, we would be glad to hear from you.
