Minimalism at work in an amazing penthouse duplex in Tung Chung — a monochromatic composition of white, grey, and black that reads as a quiet refuge above the city.
Minimalism is at work in this amazing penthouse duplex in Tung Chung. The plan is opened up across two floors and re-centred on the views toward the coastline.
The monochromatic colour scheme of white, grey, and black is the best choice to complement the minimal styling — a deliberately narrow palette that lets architecture, light, and view become the principal materials.
Furniture is carefully designed to provide ample storage while facilitating the neatness that is symbolic of the minimal design style.
— Location & Context
Tung Chung, Lantau Island
Coastal Skyline sits on the north shore of Lantau Island in Tung Chung, looking across the channel toward the airport island and the open water beyond — a rare low-density outlook by Hong Kong standards.
Because the duplex is exposed to strong coastal light for most of the day, the monochrome palette is calibrated in tone rather than colour, using honed rather than polished surfaces to keep glare down.
Storage is engineered to Hong Kong apartment realities: full-height concealed joinery along the circulation walls keeps the living volume clear, and the stair void is left deliberately empty to hold the double-height view.
